Kindergarten Reading/Language Arts/Writing
The Reading Wonders Program, published by McGraw Hill is used for RLAW in Kindergarten. This web-based, digitally connected curriculum, uses a rich range of diverse print and digital media, Wonders providing instructional support and materials supporting approaching level, on-level and beyond level learners to teach the rigor, intent, and depth of the new Common Core State Standards. Wonders will be taught in print, digital, or blended format. All print resources are available in a customizable platform for differentiation. This program focuses on: building a strong reading foundation; accessing complex text; finding and using text evidence; engaging in collaborative conversations; and writing to sources. Kindergarten students will journal daily towards the end of the first semester and take weekly spelling assessments at the beginning of second semester. By the end of the academic year, Kindergarten students will be able to write simple sentences and recognize/spell/write high frequency and sight words.
