The third grade curriculum, Exploring, People, Places and Culture, published by Macmillan/McGraw-Hill TIMELINKS builds geographic mastery with timelines, map skills and offers reading and writing activities and strategies to reinforce Reading/Language Arts skills. Course highlights focus on customs, cultures, economics, community, local, state, and national government, and citizenship. Throughout the course students will answer five essential questions: How does where you live affect how you live?, How do communities change over time?, How do people change communities?, How do people in a community meet their needs, and Why do communities need governments? Students gain experience about these studies through projects and field trips, as well as throughout reading and note taking.
